While the versatile guard/center Ryan Bates was sold by the Buffalo Bills to the Chicago Bears on Monday night in exchange for a 2024 fifth-round pick, guard David Edwards has signed a two-year, $6 million contract, according to several sources, indicating that he is here to stay. The terms and incentives of Edwards’ contract, which includes a $1.75 million signing bonus and $2.95 million guaranteed, were described by Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston.
Before signing with Buffalo as a free agency in 2023, the 26-year-old Edwards played for the Los Angeles Rams for the first four seasons of his career. In Buffalo, he was a reserve in every game and saw just 148 offensive snaps in total. Given how well guards Connor McGovern and O’Cyrus Torrence performed last season, Edwards’ chances of starting aren’t as good, but he is a reliable and versatile player who will probably succeed in Bates’ backup role.
While it may not be a game-changing move, it does appear to be salary cap friendly and strengthens the offensive line, which further shields quarterback Josh Allen.
