Tight end Dalton Schultz of the Texans re-signed this week, saying he didn’t want to go anyplace else because he didn’t want to stop playing with quarterback C.J. Stroud. Schultz chose not to wait until next week to try free agency.
After playing for five years in Dallas, Schultz signed a one-year contract with the Texans last year. He stated on the Pat McAfee Show that one of the main reasons he enjoyed his first season in Houston was playing with Stroud.
“To have someone enter the game with that level of maturity, take the reins, and start winning right away, C.J. has established himself as one of the best quarterbacks in the league.” stated Schultz. “After speaking with C.J., I saw how much faith and confidence he has in himself, as well as how he handles himself, make him exceptional. That was one of the main reasons I wanted to return. I wanted boys just like him to be all around me. Individuals who energize a football team, and he certainly accomplishes that, in my opinion. Being a Texan is fantastic right now, and I’m thrilled to be back.
Playing with Stroud, according to Schultz, is intriguing since he wants to keep improving following his 2023 Rookie of the Year campaign.
“When you see a quarterback that’s able to make every single throw again and again and again, and stay humble about it and realize he’s not quite there,” Schultz stated. “Through all the success he was having, he kept going back to, ‘How can I get better, though?'”
Now that he has a new three-year deal, Schultz anticipates continuing to catch passes for Stroud in pivotal moments.
