When it comes to winning the Super Bowl, the Buffalo Bills are not having an easy time. Josh Allen is among the NFL’s top quarterbacks, but the team is unable to overcome the Kansas City Chiefs.
They brought back Mitch Trubisky to be Allen’s backup quarterback in the QB room as they look to counter the Chiefs in the summer. His familiarity with Allen and the Bills organization should help him fit in with the squad right away.
But not everyone is pleased with how the agreement to reinstate Trubisky was handled. One former quarterback even expressed his dissatisfaction with the Bills’ handling of their offseason thus far in public.
Amid player cuts, Mitchell Schwartz criticizes the Buffalo Bills for paying Mitch Trubisky more than the veteran minimum.
In order to maximize their cap space, the Bills should sign the former Chicago Bears quarterback to a contract that pays more than the veteran minimum, according to Mitchell Schwartz, who won his first and only Super Bowl ring with the Chiefs in Super Bowl LIV.
Hunter Hodies of The Spun wrote on Schwartz’s impassioned speech on the subject:
“It’s funny that Buffalo is willing to pay Trubisky more than the league minimum while cutting all these players and yet being over the cap. Do they not have access to football? Schwartz sent out a tweet.
He continued by saying that, in his opinion, Trubisky is not excellent, therefore he doesn’t see why the Bills added him.
“Considering the current state of reading comprehension, why do any Buffalo supporters want Mitch Trubisky to play for them? The main argument is that they overpaid for a sign-on that involves someone who frequently performs poorly. I have no issue spending money on QB backups. Simply choose the best option, Schwartz continued.
A cursory examination at Trubisky’s statistics from the previous season with the Pittsburgh Steelers will validate Schwartz’s assessment of the North Carolina product. He completed five games with 632 yards, four touchdowns, and five interceptions through the air. While he was unable to have a strong QB rating for the previous campaign, he had a dismal 58.5 QBR in his rookie year with the Steelers.
The fact that Mitch Trubisky is merely a backup quarterback is fortunately for the Bills Mafia. If the Buffalo Bills have to rely on him in the upcoming season, they won’t be at ease.
