DJ Mangas has been designated offensive quality control coach by the Buffalo Bills, officially advancing him in the organization’s coaching ranks. Mangas joined Buffalo’s coaching staff during the bye week of the 2023 NFL season, shortly after Joe Brady was named to interim offensive coordinator.
With Brady as interim OC and no actual identified quarterbacks coach, the organization saw a chance to bring Mangas on as an offensive assistant. While no official title was provided, Mangas had the opportunity to unofficially join the Bills’ coaching staff. DJ Mangas is now reaping the benefits of his decision.
Mangas was the offensive coordinator/tight ends coach at the University of Buffalo before to joining the Bills last season.
Mangas has worked with Joe Brady before, most recently as an offensive analyst and passing game coordinator for the LSU football program in 2019, during the team’s national championship season. However, their relationship dates back to their playing days at William & Mary (2008-2011). Mangas was a walk-on at West Texas A&M who played wide receiver and served as the Tribe’s emergency quarterback.
DJ Mangas has 12 years of coaching experience, the majority of which has been at the collegiate level. Mangas began as the quarterbacks coach at Hampden-Sydney (2012) before moving to Georgetown in 2013 to coach the Hoyas’ running backs. Mangas subsequently returned to William & Mary to coach the Tribe’s running backs from 2014 to 2016. Mangas was promoted to offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach at W&M for the 2017-2018 season
.
Mangas departed LSU in 2019 to become an offensive analyst, before making his NFL debut as a coaching assistant with the Carolina Panthers in 2020. Mangas would return to LSU as the passing game coordinator for the 2021 college football season. Then, in 2022, Mangas began working as a defensive analyst for the UCF Knights football program, his only opportunity on that side of the ball to date.
Mangas moved to Buffalo, NY, in 2023, to work as the offensive coordinator/tight ends coach for the University of Buffalo Bulls football program. Following the Bulls’ season, Mangas joined One Bills Drive, which led to his elevation to full-time coach with the Buffalo Bills beginning in the 2024 NFL season.
