In Melbourne, Alex Albon wants to “payback” his Williams Formula One teammate Logan Sargeant by finishing in the points.
Alex Albon believes that the greatest way to “payback” for his Williams Formula One teammate Logan Sargeant would be to score points in the Australian Grand Prix.
Williams controversially decided to give Albon Sargeant’s chassis after the latter severely damaged his vehicle in a first practice crash and it became apparent the team did not have a spare in Melbourne.
Albon went on to qualify for the race on Sunday in the 12th position, two positions outside of the points and behind Lewis Hamilton of Mercedes.
Albon, who called his American comrade a “true gentleman,” is determined to pay Williams back for essentially choosing to sacrifice Sargeant’s weekend.
Regarding Sargeant, Albon remarked, “He’s been a true gentleman, he’s been a true team player in this whole situation.”
As a team, we communicate frequently and honestly. In FP2, I was supporting him, and once the choice was determined, he was supporting me.
When asked how it felt to take his teammate’s car, Albon said, “To be honest, it was a different feeling, a weird feeling.”
“Making a mistake and the pressure to do well during qualifying are one thing, but receiving responsibility and accepting it is a another feeling entirely. I don’t take this responsibility lightly.
Yes, it was difficult. However, you are limited to treating the weekend like any other, concentrating on your work and putting it all behind you.
“Obviously, we’ve lost a session, but generally, that’s all I can really do. We’ve done well so far; we just need to keep going, and some points would be the ultimate form of recompense for Logan.”
James Vowles, the principal of the Williams team, stated that Albon was chosen because they believe the Thai racer, who was born in Britain, offers the team the best opportunity to win in Melbourne.
Williams won’t have a spare chassis for the upcoming race in Japan, which takes place in two weeks.
