JUST IN: New Manager Confirm Major Things To Focus On

With great pleasure, Birmingham City Football Club announces the signing of Wayne Rooney to a three-and-a-half-year contract as manager.

Having recently resigned as Head Coach of Major League Soccer team D.C. United, he takes immediate effective leave.

Former England international Ashley Cole, the current assistant coach of the England Under-21 squad, Republic of Ireland men’s national team assistant coach John O’Shea, and Rooney’s DC United teammates Carl Robinson and Pete Shuttleworth all provide support for Rooney. He included Shuttleworth in his coaching staff at Derby County.

John O’Shea and Ashley Cole will continue to lead their respective national teams as coaches.

Maik Taylor, the goalkeeper coach, will stay with the team.

In January 2021, the 37-year-old started working as a full-time manager at Derby County. After taking over with the team in the relegation zone, the former England striker led the Rams to safety in the Sky Bet Championship.

Fighting a 21-point deficit in his first full season as coach, Rooney brought together, led, and inspired a group of players, mostly from the Academy, to score an astounding 55 points while juggling other club-related problems. In June 2022, he submitted his resignation and three weeks later, he became leadership of D.C.

Wayne is a natural winner, according to Tom Wagner, chairman of the board and co-owner of Birmingham City.
