New York Jets Targeting Trophy-Winning QB Ahead Of The 2024 NFL Draft

A quarterback prospect is in the New York Jets’ sights ahead of the 2024 NFL Draft.

The green and white have arranged a future visit with former Florida State quarterback Jordan Travis, according to Logan B. Robinson of Nole Gameday.

Travis “holds FSU career records for touchdown responsibility, total offense, quarterback rushing yards, and quarterback rushing touchdown,” according to the university website. With over 50 passing touchdowns and at least 12 rushing touchdowns, [he] is the only athlete in FSU history to have both distinctions. In program history, Travis is the first player to have three separate streaks of at least 120 passes without an interception. He is the only player from FSU with career passing and rushing touchdown totals that are included in the top 10.

Ultimately, he was responsible for 10,554 yards of total offense and a school-record 97 touchdowns.

Jermaine Johnson, a defensive lineman for the Jets and Travis’s former FSU teammate, responded to the rumored visit on social media by posting an emoji of two eyes.

At quarterback, the top two spots on the Jets’ depth chart are locked up. Tyrod Taylor will be the backup quarterback to Aaron Rodgers, who will start the game.

Zach Wilson is still listed, but it’s unlikely that he’ll be here come game time. Thus, the green and white team’s lineup consists of two veteran players and no long-term solution.

Before suffering an injury in 2023, Travis was having a stellar season with the Seminoles. With 2,756 passing yards and a touchdown to interception ratio of 20, he was also completing 63.9% of his throws.

Travis was not only a skilled passer but also added value to the ground game. The only player in program history to score seven touchdowns on the ground in four straight seasons is Travis. In six seasons, he gained 1,950 yards from the rush.

The former FSU standout will turn 24 before the 2024 season officially begins. He is now 23 years old.

If Travis hadn’t sustained a fractured leg in his last collegiate season, he would have gone considerably higher in the draft.

That might allow the Jets to get a quarterback for pennies on the dollar.

As per the report from NFL Draft Buzz, Travis is considered a potential “third-round pick.” In the third round of the April draft, New York is positioned with the 72nd overall pick.

Although that could be a bit expensive for the Jets in a QB3 role, they might take a look at him with one of their two fourth-round picks.

For 2024, New York doesn’t require a starter or a backup. Travis might be able to finish his rehabilitation as a QB3 if the Jets choose him. The gifted passer would be able to play in the NFL as a redshirt for the Jets.
