JUST IN: Dodgers shuffle their starting lineup for their opening home game.

In his final tune-up of the regular season, Bobby Miller pitched shutout baseball into the fifth inning of Sunday’s Freeway Series opener against the Angels at Dodger Stadium. The Dodgers have rearranged their starting rotation, with Miller taking the mound against the Cardinals on Friday.

Miller switches places with Yoshinobu Yamamoto, who made his major league debut on March 21 in Seoul against the Padres and was blasted for five runs in just one inning. Now, against St. Louis on Saturday, Yamamoto will get the start.

Dave Roberts only said, “It’s just kind of setting things up with the schedule,” without delving into any further detail about the switch.

The Dodgers’ immediate schedule consists of a seven-game homestand that starts on Thursday. This weekend, they play four games against the Cardinals, followed by three games against the Giants, before their next day off. In the first two positions of the rotation, Tyler Glasnow, who will start the home opener on Thursday, and Miller would be eligible to start the final two games against San Francisco after four days off.

Yamamoto would have five days off until his next start, which would come on Friday, April 5 at Wrigley Field against the Cubs, if he were moved to Saturday. Naturally, this comes with a warning: pitching plans are subject to change at any time, so attempting to plan too far in advance is a foolish endeavor.

In Japan, Yamamoto threw about once a week, and eventually, he will pitch in the majors with less rest. However, that hasn’t yet occurred. The Dodgers scheduled Yamamoto’s three outings in the shortened Cactus League schedule such that he pitched exclusively on Wednesdays in Arizona. He arrived in South Korea after a seven-day break. It might have been a bit much to go from that to starting a four-day rest period so quickly, but eventually, even if just seldom, it will happen.

Miller’s 4⅔ innings on Sunday saw five strikeouts and one walk. Taylor Ward’s leadoff hit in the second inning gave the Angels their greatest opportunity to score runs off of him, but he still walked. However,

Miller had a fantastic spring training, pitching five exhibition games, including a five-inning outing on March 18 against the Korean national team in Seoul. Miller finished with 15 strikeouts against just 4 walks in 18 innings, giving up seven runs (six earned). He didn’t pay much attention to the minor alteration in pitching during the Cardinals series from Saturday to Friday.

Regarding his Friday task, Miller remarked on Sunday, “It’s just another game.” “You just need to go out there and win, not think too much about it, and be ready to compete and dominate.”
