The Brandon Aiyuk watch is still going strong and will be for some time to come. The wide receiver for the San Francisco 49ers, Aiyuk, demonstrated during his appearance on The Nightcap that he is aware of his value and deserves an extension. The San Francisco 49ers have reportedly stated that they value Aiyuk and have not talked about trading him.
Mike Garofolo of NFL Network reports that Aiyuk and the 49ers are at odds about an impending deal.
In an interview on NFL Total Access on Friday, Garafolo discussed the current state of affairs about all the controversy. Though they aren’t quite close to finishing any of it, there is undoubtedly a shared ambition to get something done:
“Where are we, exactly? We aren’t close, though. And from what I hear, Mike Yam, they’ve recently made a go at it. It’s not as though they haven’t spoken at all. They’ve had some early conversations. John Lynch stated that they are okay with Brandon Aiyuk playing out his contract in the fifth year of his option. Then there’s Aiyuk, who is pointing and saying, “Hey, I could walk.”
Thus, at this point, there is essentially a standoff. Look, this isn’t the Deebo Samuel situation, and even though things went out of hand—Samuel essentially asked for a trade—they managed to save that.
So let’s not lose hope just yet. Let’s not go crazy. And perhaps if Brandon Aiyuk does the small finger emoji gesture and says, “Yeah, I’m going to be walking the other way instead of going to those voluntary workouts,” when there are some offseason sessions and OTAs.
