Over the last two seasons, the owner’s poor management has resulted in multiple point penalties; following the most recent two-point penalty, Ruben Selles’ team has already lost six points this season.
Because of this, despite their positive performance in 2024, they are still very much in the running to be relegated to League Two.
Numerous onlookers are pleased with Selles’s performance considering the turmoil that has surrounded Reading this season.
Due to the constraints in place, the former Southampton manager hasn’t received the support he would have liked in the windows and has instead been working with a group primarily composed of academy players and free agents.
However, he has succeeded in assembling a club that has produced outcomes and done so while playing excellent football.
That has, understandably, led some to question if Selles will remain at Reading, especially if they fail, as his work has undoubtedly drawn notice elsewhere.
Fan pundit Johnny, however, told FLW that he was sure Selles would stay because he had supported him to keep the team in the third division as well.
“First of all, even though we’ve had another point deduction, I am confident that we will survive the drop. There’s enough about us to stay up, and I think Selles has them playing for each other.”
“By remaining with the club in spite of all the nonsense that has been going on behind the scenes, he has undoubtedly improved his personal reputation. We know that League One differs greatly from the Premier League, something he has learned on the job.
“It’s obvious that our initial approach and his system didn’t work at that level, but he’s grown and changed, and now he has the players working for him.”
“The strange outcome hasn’t gone well, but overall, they’re fighting, have spirit, and have some quality.” With such a small team and in really difficult circumstances, he has managed to make us entertaining to watch.
“We don’t want to lose him, but if we do fall and he does go, I think he’s a good asset for anyone. We want to retain him because he contributes to the fight, hopefully for the upcoming season and beyond.
