Pro days are among the most important events on the calendar, just after the NFL Scouting Combine and the all-star games. Teams and staff have the opportunity to see and learn a variety of topics by getting up close and personal with players and their coaches.
Following Michael Penix Jr.’s pro day last week, the Minnesota Vikings had a private workout with him. According to Jordan Schultz of Bleacher Report, they brought the entire staff, not just head coach Kevin O’Connell and Kwesi Adofo-Mesah.
Penix is an intriguing idea. Although he was a dominant force in college football in 2022 and 2023, he may have long-term injury concerns.
He has many injuries to his non-throwing shoulder in addition to two torn ACLs.Penix’s assessment will be based just on talent if those are clean.
Despite having a high pressure-to-sack percentage and being a true pocket passer, he struggles to create outside of the system. At the tail end of the first round, he might be a viable choice for clubs, including the Vikings if a trade-up doesn’t occur, if you believe he is good enough to succeed in such circumstances.
