After leaving the Braves, Teheran was unable to find employment that utilized his skills. He played with the Brewers, Tigers, and Angels for one season each in 2022, but he was unable to secure a position in the major leagues. Julio pitched in the Mexican League and Atlantic League instead.
With the New York Mets, Atlanta’s fiercest rival, Teheran is back in the NL East.

This follows spring training in 2023 with the Baltimore Orioles and Milwaukee Brewers. With a 3.38 ERA in 13.1 innings pitched, Teheran gave up seven walks and ten strikeouts.

But after failing to make the Major League roster out of Spring Training, he chose to opt out of his contract with the Orioles.

As everyone knows, the New York Mets are attempting to rebuild following their disappointing year and the trade deadline decisions they made. There is no one more qualified to assist with this process than a seasoned starter with a track record of success in the division.

Julio Teheran signed a $2.5 million one-year contract with the Mets. A performance incentive of up to $450,000 is also a part of Teheran’s deal.

Teheran was 77-73 with a 3.67 ERA in his Braves career. Although the Mets hope to see that kind of performance from him, this agreement is more about creating a pathway to get where they want to go.

Over his career, the 33-year-old starter has faced the Mets in 30 games, going 10-10 with a 3.24 ERA.

The Atlanta Braves made some signings that were comparable to this one when they were going through their rebuilding process in the middle of the 2010s. R.A. Dickey and Bartolo Colon are the first two that spring to mind.
