Teair Tart, a strong defensive tackle who used to stuff the runs of the Houston Texans, has signed with the Miami Dolphins.
Arriving in Miami after one of his more consistently strong NFL seasons, Tart is expected to be a key replacement for Christian Wilkins, who left South Beach early in free agency to join the Las Vegas Raiders.
Before the Houston Texans claimed Tart off waivers on December 13 of last year, the Titans dismissed him. Tart went on to play a significant part in the defense during Houston’s postseason run.
Before free agency started, Zoltan Buday wrote about Tart for Pro Football Focus “two years ago.” “Tart had a breakout season and ended up ranking 17th among interior defenders in pass-rushing grade (75.9).”
Tart signed with the Titans as an undrafted free agent after the 2020 NFL Draft. In his first 47 games with the team, he has recorded 79 total tackles, including 2.5 sacks, 7 pass breakups, 1 fumble recovery, and 16 tackles for loss.
According to Bleacher Report’s Jordan Schultz, Tart and the Dolphins have reached an agreement on terms for a contract. The specifics of that agreement are not specified.
Tart is expected to be a vital member of Miami’s defensive tackle rotation.
