Daniel Jones, the starting quarterback for the New York Giants, is under doubt over his future after missing much of the 2023 campaign due to an ACL tear. Since then, New York has met with experienced signal-callers in free agency and has been closely observing the best quarterbacks in the next draft class.
Something dramatic has been simmering somewhere in the Empire State. After losing All-Pro wide receiver Stefon Diggs in a trade, the Buffalo Bills appear destined for rebuilding. Might the next great quarterback to be moved out of Buffalo be Josh Allen?
While the Bills are rebuilding, co-host Evan Roberts of WFAN’s Evan & Tiki said that the Giants should move quickly to acquire Allen.
Roberts responded to the Bills’ trade of Diggs by recommending the sensational move that Giants general manager Joe Schoen ought to execute right away:
On WFAN, Roberts stated, “Schoen needs to pick up the phone and ask about Josh Allen.” “Why not?”
Roberts continued to elaborate on how and why he believes that a transfer of this kind may occur:
Josh is no longer in possession of any toys. Josh isn’t content, Roberts remarked. Josh is done wanting to live in Buffalo. Josh’s girlfriend would prefer spend her time in Buffalo, that toilet bowl, than shopping on Fifth Avenue in New York City.
Roberts proposes what would be a historic trade: the Giants send Allen the sixth overall pick in this year’s draft. He neglects to mention, though, that for a player like Allen, the No. 6 pick would only be the beginning of a negotiation.
In the prime of his career, Allen is a consistent MVP contender. Without a doubt, the Bills view him as an indispensable member of their team. He recently inked a $258 million, six-year contract with them. Over the past five years, Allen has guided Buffalo to the postseason each time. The Bills have no chance in hell of selling him away over the summer, and even if they did think of pulling off such an unexpected move, It would not be possible to complete with the No. 6 pick in the draft.
However, Giants supporters believe that acquiring Allen would be the best way to revitalize the fan base and elevate the team back to the postseason. Brian Daboll, the head coach of the Giants, and Allen had previously worked together as Buffalo’s offensive coordinator from 2018 to 2021. Allen’s transformation into one of the top quarterbacks in the NFL is frequently attributed to Daboll.
In the past four seasons, Allen has passed for at least 4,300 yards, made it to two Pro Bowls, finished third in the MVP voting the previous three times, and was selected as a second-team All-Pro in 2020.
He threw for 4,306 yards and 29 touchdowns with 18 interceptions and another 524 yards and 15 touchdowns rushing in 2023, helping the Bills to an 11-6 record and the AFC East title.
In order to become consistent postseason and Super Bowl contenders, the Giants would adore to deal for Allen. But reality is harsh, and dreams are just that—dreams. The Buffalo Bills will never, ever consider trading Josh Allen to the New York Giants in 2024, given the current state of affairs.
