The Chicago Cubs won the weekend series at Wrigley Field on Sunday, taking the series from the Los Angeles Dodgers, 8-1, following a depressing defeat on Saturday.
Dodgers Genaral Manange was disappointed with the team for defeat.
The Cubs displayed their dominaWince on both sides of the ball as everything came together. With yet another solid outing in the mound, Shota Imanaga led the way and kept the Cubs ahead of the pack.
Rain caused the day to be shortened, but Imanaga pitched four innings shutout. On Friday, however, the bullpen continued where their starter had left off. With Shohei Ohtani’s RBI double in the eighth inning, the Cubs’ relief staff gave up just one run.
With a three-run double in the bottom of the first, Michael Busch started the celebrations, and the Cubs offense was clicking on all cylinders.
Cody Bellinger contributed to the excitement during a nearly three-hour rain delay by throwing one of his renowned “Belli Bombs” into the Wrigley supporters. His impressive early run at the plate is encouraging as he attempts to build on a successful 2023 campaign.
The Cubs outperformed the Colorado Rockies and Dodgers, going a combined 5-1 on their very successful first homestand.
On Monday, the Cubs travel to the San Diego Padres with the intention of carrying that momentum west. Following that, Chicago’s Pacific Coast tour includes series against the defending National League champion Arizona Diamondbacks and Seattle Mariners. A Cubs squad that has started the season strong will be put to the test on what could appear to be a difficult road trip.
