In a match of two halves, Bristol City’s Nahki Wells scored the game’s winning goal to give City all three points over Plymouth Argyle.
In the 58th minute, Nahki Wells’ close-range header overcame Michael Cooper to seal the victory and give the team their second straight victory over the Pilgrims.
Argyle had a solid first half, but their carelessness in front of goal cost them dearly as they lost another encounter.
When Bristol City takes on Sunderland on Saturday, April 6, they will be looking to extend their winning streak.
The hosts dominated the first few exchanges, suffocating City with their positive play segments.
Plymouth won six corners in the first ten minutes, with defender Bali Mumba volleying one of them over the crossbar.
Argyle went on the counterattack just as Bristol City was trying to establish some momentum, but Ryan Hardie missed the critical shot.
Subsequently, Morgan Whittaker outran Rob Dickie and Haydon Roberts to cut inside and score against Max O’Leary, who was unfazed by the City goal.
To maintain the score at zero-nil, Vyner expertly stopped Hardie’s next opportunity.
Whittaker had Argyle’s finest chance of the half, volleying Mathew Sorinola’s cross high but well.
After having more time in possession, Matty James appeared to have set up Scott Twine with a gorgeous ball over the top, but Cooper’s fingertip stopped Twine’s exquisite control.
At halftime, Liam Manning changed the formation and made three substitutions: Mark Sykes, Joe Williams, Nahki Wells, and Tommy Conway replaced Roberts, James, and Tommy Conway.
Sykes made himself known right away and claimed that he had been fouled in the penalty area, but Keith Stroud dismissed the Irishman’s protests.
Alfie Devine scored a point for City as they increased their intensity by fouling Knight and receiving a yellow card in the process.
After Knight’s characteristic dash provided early chances for Mehmeti and Sykes, Wells headed home the leftovers from close range to give City the lead in the 58th minute.
Morgan Whittaker attempted to tie the game, but O’Leary made a great save on his low drive.
Mehmeti was replaced in the 70th minute by Harry Cornick.
As City applied further pressure, substitutes Sykes and Wells forced outstanding stops from Cooper in quick succession.
Devine’s team was reduced to ten men for the last few minutes of play after his tackle on Tanner in the 77th minute earned him his second yellow of the game.
In the 82nd minute, Manning made one more change: Andy King took Twine’s place.
With just a few minutes remaining, Argyle got a risky free kick that O’Leary skillfully pushed away, earning Cam Pring a booking.
After a fierce battle, City emerged victorious with three points, having been the better team in the end.
