For Wrexham supporters even five years ago, League One was only a pipe dream, but the whole atmosphere surrounding the club has changed. The support of Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds has undoubtedly been very helpful, but Wrexham has been making excellent judgments both on and off the field.
It is a difficult ask to get promoted three times in a row because the move from League Two to League One is perhaps more significant than the move from the National League to League Two.
Prioritizing Wrexham’s consolidation and establishment as a seasoned League One team is the first priority; any progress made after that will be considered a bonus.
There exist instances of teams progressing quickly in the leagues, and a Wrexham player is well aware of this momentum. Midfielder Elliot Lee completed his transfer from Luton Town to Wrexham in 2022.
Lee joined the Hatters in 2017, when they were in League Two, and had an incredible climb with the team. After leading the team to promotion to League One with 12 goals, Lee replicated the feat a year later to lead the team to the Championship.
After spending time on loan at Oxford United and Charlton Athletic, the 29-year-old’s playing time decreased in the Championship before moving to Wrexham in 2022.
Lee has already achieved two promotions consecutively since joining the team, and he believes Luton and Wrexham are similar.
Though it seems like a very ambitious aim for Wrexham at this point, the Hatters have made it to the Premier League, so you never know. The hardworking character of everyone at the STōK Cae Ras reminds Lee of life at Kenilworth Road, and Lee told The Athletic that something spectacular can happen in Wrexham just as it has at Luton.
Lee declared, “Anything can happen.” “Check out Luton, my former club. I mentioned before I left that I was looking for a project like Luton. Wrexham was the perfect place for me to advance in the leagues. You cannot, of course, get ahead of yourself. I also don’t think we’ll be playing in the Premier League very soon. However, I am stating that we have every basis needed to succeed as a club.
With the support of our owners and employees, it has the potential to go beyond our wildest expectations. It’s a terrific location to work every day, and people come here to work hard. Special things can happen, which is why I’ve always thought this place reminds me of Luton. I know this because of what we had at Luton, and I have said it ever since coming here. He went on, “Look at them now in the Premier League.”
