On Thursday night in Detroit, the New York Giants made a huge offensive upgrade when they selected LSU wide receiver Malik Nabers with the sixth overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.
That’s a sentiment that is shared by the great majority of league and draft experts, who evaluated general manager Joe Schoen and the Giants appropriately. The Giants’ Round 1 draft grades are listed below:
There will be large shoes for Nabers to fill. He is not the first Tigers player that the Giants have chosen in the draft. Notable players that the Giants selected from Baton Rouge include: On December 12, 2014, WR Odell Beckham Jr., DE CB Corey Webster (No. 43, 2005), Leonard Marshall (No. 37, 1983), A S Nos. 78, 1989 for Greg Jackson, 63, 2012 for WR Rueben Randle, and 81, 2022 for DB Cor’Dale Flott.
Despite not taking part in workouts at the 2024 NFL Scouting Combine this past winter, Nabers certainly captured the interest of the handful of NFL executives and scouts that visited his pro day in March.
Standing six feet one inch and weighing two hundred and sixty pounds, Nabers’ initial 40-yard time was 4.35 seconds, and his second time was 4.40. In the vertical leap, he also set an amazing record of 42 inches.
At the combine, his 40 time of 4.35 would have placed him fourth among receivers, and his vertical leap would have tied for third place. He would have placed sixth among the wide receiver competitors at the combine with his broad jump score of 10-9.
