Luke Ayling: Leeds United defender joins Middlesbrough on loan - BBC Sport

During the January transfer window, the Elland Road mainstay joined Boro on loan for the balance of the season after falling out of Daniel Farke’s favour. Despite missing out on a spot in the Championship play-offs, Ayling has been impressive for Michael Carrick’s team at Riverside Stadium, tallying six assists in 18 games.

Ayling’s future is still unknown because his contract expires at the end of the current campaign. He formerly played defense for Yeovil Town and Bristol City. Ayling is reportedly interested in a permanent contract from Boro, and Sheffield United has also considered adding him as they get ready to return to the second division after a 5-1 loss to Newcastle United on Saturday. But now, according to The Sun, Birmingham is “ready to fight” for Ayling’s signature at the end of the current campaign, and the defender has “a very real option” to transfer to St Andrews.
