In an effort to acquire more depth at quarterback, the Detroit Lions are assessing players outside of those chosen in the most recent NFL Draft during their rookie minicamp. Two quarterbacks, Theo Day of Northern Iowa and Cade Peterson of Grand Valley State, worked out for the Lions.: A Local Prospect Peterson demonstrated his dual-threat skills while attending Division II Grand Valley State University. He tallied 2,116 passing yards, 20 touchdown passes, and eight interceptions in the previous campaign. Peterson showed off his mobility by adding 435 rushing yards and six scores on the ground. Throughout his collegiate career, he has scored 21 rushing touchdowns.
Day Theo: Seeking a Fresh Chance
Participating in the Detroit Lions rookie minicamp was Theo Day, a former Michigan State quarterback who moved to Northern Iowa. Day completed last season with 2,876 yards, 16 touchdowns, and 15 interceptions. He showed promise to become a more reliable player in 2022 when he had his best performance, throwing for 3,121 yards and 26 touchdowns with only six interceptions.
Lions’ Present Quarterback Circumstances
The Lions are well-prepared for the 2024 season with a quarterback room that already features Nate Sudfeld, Hendon Hooker, and Jared Goff. But Peterson and Day’s workouts indicate that the team is still willing to groom talent and make sure they have strong choices, whether for the practice squad or emergency backup.
During their rookie minicamp, the Detroit Lions decided to work out two quarterbacks, demonstrating their proactive approach to roster building and development. The addition of players like Peterson and Day highlights the value of depth and competition, which are crucial components for long-term success in the NFL, even though the team seems set at the quarterback position for the foreseeable future.
