When his loan at Birmingham City expires, Jay Stansfield hasn’t fully ruled out going back, but it seems the move to League One takes away the possibility of his making another temporary move very soon.
In addition to being the Blues’ top scorer for the whole 2023–24 season, the Fulham loanee was also the winner of the three individual awards: player of the season, player of the players’ season, and goal of the season.
Although it’s advised to never fall in love with a loan star, Stansfield’s constant goal output and embodiment of what it means to play for Birmingham made it hard to resist.
The 21-year-old would really like to stay, but his parent club won’t let it because of his ability to start regularly in the Premier League. He will also aspire to reach his highest goals. After collecting his trophies at the end-of-campaign honors, Stansfield remarked, via Birmingham Live, “We’ll see what happens. I’m heading back to Fulham and I’m going to try my best there.” That’s my current squad, so I need to apply all I’ve learned here to that group.
On the first day, I gained everyone’s respect and was able to explain my decision to attend Birmingham. There are amazing people all over the city, as seen by the admirers and the warm, diligent nature of each and every one of them. I’ll always hold a special place in my heart for the blues, said Stansfield.
There will be a big hole at the top of Birmingham’s assault after the current England Under-21 international and former Exeter City player leaves. If he leaves as anticipated, so too will club legend Lukas Jutkiewicz. Finding goal scorers that prolific will be a difficult assignment for the Blues board.
