Due to an unplanned injury that left star reliever Evan Phillips suffering with a strained hamstring, the Los Angeles Dodgers will have to overcome a slight obstacle. Phillips recalled that the pull was caused by his cleat becoming tangled in the grass. He’s now listed as injured for 15 days.
Phillips told reporters, via SportsNet LA, “It was just a really weird, unique situation that a cleat caught in the grass and when I tried to extend I just felt my hamstring pull a little bit.” Luckily, it’s as little as it gets, so hopefully the healing process will go well and I’ll be back in a few weeks. For the time being, I’ll simply take things day by day and see how things go. After his hamstring is under control, Phillips stated he will start throwing since the team doesn’t want to take a chance on it getting worse. This is his first trip to the IL since signing with the Dodgers, and despite the injury’s minor nature, Phillips described the timing as “frustrating.”
“I feel like I was in such a good spot on the mound, and I definitely want to keep that consistency going,” Phillips said. “It’s really frustrating timing. In light of Phillips’ injury, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts revealed that they are still unsure about who will end games. Reliever Blake Treinen was just activated by the Dodgers, but he hasn’t thrown since 2022 due to rib and shoulder problems. Fortunately, assuming nothing goes wrong, Phillips should return to the Dodgers shortly. With a 0.66 ERA and a 100% save percentage, Phillips has emerged as one of the team’s most reliable relievers.
