The goal of the Las Vegas Raiders for the upcoming season is to return to competition. The coaching staff, along with players like Maxx Crosby, already fully supports Antonio Pierce. They began fixing their offensive problems this offseason, and they still need to address them. In the NFL Draft, the front office added further reinforcements and acquired some quality players in free agency. One of them, Georgia native Brock Bowers, could potentially be their long-term tight end option.
Now that’s official! According to Ari Meirov of The 33rd Team, Brock Bowers will be sticking with the Raiders offense. The team recently signed a four-year contract for $18.1 million to secure its NFL Draft pick from the Georgia Bulldogs. In addition, a fifth-year team option and a $10 million signing bonus are included in his contract.
Antonio Pierce has a plan to revitalize the Raiders offense, and this is only the first part of it. Their pass-catcher group appears to be really good so far. Among the players on their team are Michael Mayer, Jakobi Meyers, Jalen Guyton, and Davante Adams. With Alexander Mattison and Zamir White at the top of the depth chart, their rushing weapons are also seeming extremely lethal.
Moreover, the quality of the Raiders offense is solely dependent on their trenches. The team is aware of this and has made some significant enhancements in those areas as well. Some well-known players from college that can contribute to this team and shield their quarterback include Clark Barrington, Will Putnam, DJ Glaze, Jackson Powers-Johnson, and Jake Johanning. In relation to the signal-caller role, the Raiders have one more puzzle to solve. They just signed Aidan O’Connell and acquired Gardner Minshew. The scenario is unknown given the arrival of Carter Bradley via the NFL Draft. These quarterbacks will still have outstanding weapons at their disposal to chuck the ball to or execute long pass plays with.
With Bowers, what do the Raiders get?
Although he won’t solve the Raiders’ patchy offensive line, he can serve as their cornerstone going forward. In Georgia, he excelled at this particular task. He is a jack of all trades, whether it was sprinting through the seam for an easy checkdown, blocking for a running back, or making room in the pocket for his signal caller.
Throughout college, the Raiders’ NFL Draft selection also turned in strong performance. He obviously knows how to play the passing game well, and he has sticky hands. He recorded 2,538 receiving yards on 175 receptions with this. To put things in perspective, Bowers averaged 14.5 yards per reception for the Bulldogs, nearly always resulting in a first down. It is obvious that he is also an extremely deadly pass-catcher in the end zone. For this reason, he also scored 26 touchdowns in total while facing strong coverage.
In addition, he has exceptional ability to carry the ball and start the attack. Even though Bowers only participated in 19 rushes during his time in college, he makes sure that every action matters. On those few rushes, he managed to get Georgia 10.2 yards per rush and even managed five end zone runs. A key component of the Raiders’ potential Super Bowl winning core has been signed by Antonio Pierce. Hopefully it comes in handy.
