The addition of seasoned left-hander James Paxton to the team was one of the better summer steals. Despite several injuries during the season, he has contributed to the stability of this starting rotation, and he will likely put up another quality performance on Friday against the Cincinnati Reds.
After allowing three runs and seven hits in six innings, Paxton struck out two batters. Although he wasn’t at his best all evening, he managed to go around the Cincinnati offensive in numerous ways.
Manager Dave Roberts complimented the seasoned starter after his performance for still managing to have an impact on the game despite not playing his best.
Paxton was praised by Roberts for his selfless approach to success, stating, “Every player is going to say they compete.” “He managed to limit his pitch count with two ground-ball double plays. He plays deep into games and manages our bullpen even when he isn’t at his best. Los Angeles wanted their starter to have a strong game because they had lost their previous two games going into the match. For this club, Paxton has consistently been a reliable player in the lineup.
Throughout his eight starts this season, he has a 2.84 ERA and has struck out 24 batters in 44.1 innings pitched. Los Angeles will be much more formidable as a result if he can maintain his excellent season.
