Between him and quarterback Aaron Rodgers, a veteran of the New York Jets seems to be clicking. Veteran tight end Tyler Conklin impressed coaches this week during practice, according to Connor Hughes of SNY.
“Obviously, Garrett Wilson is the talk of the town, but Conklin was a player last year who truly clicked with Aaron Rodgers. Rodgers’ injury was a disappointment since it prevented us from witnessing that in action. It appears that their chemistry has continued where it left off, with Rodgers returning and Conklin never leaving. “I believe Conklin has a great chance to succeed this year and possibly sign a new deal with the Jets,” Hughes told Jeane Coakley.
The Time of Conklin’s Contract Year Is Perfect
The final year of Conklin’s $20.25 million contract is approaching for the 28-year-old. Twice through his three-year contract, the Jets have more than recouped their investment. The former standout player for Central Michigan has 1,173 receiving yards from 119 receptions, along with three receiving touchdowns. Considering the less than ideal quarterback scenario he has been forced to deal with, those figures seem even more outstanding. He will be entering a contract year with Rodgers as his QB1 in 2024. Conklin should be able to record impressive career stats if he can stay on the field.
He would benefit greatly from it since he would be eligible for unrestricted free agency in 2025. If all goes well and everyone stays well, Conklin will have another opportunity to profit handsomely from a major contract. In light of the foregoing, Conklin’s availability may be the most overlooked statistic. Conklin has made appearances in 34 of the 34 games that were scheduled between 2022 and 2023.
Conklin Gets Accolades From The National Media
Conklin is the Jets’ most “underappreciated” player, according to Gennaro Filice of the NFL Media Group. “In his first two seasons with the Jets, Garrett Wilson topped the team in receiving yards each time. It makes sense. But show your support if you thought Conklin finished second in this area in his first two seasons with the team, Filice said. “With the assortment of quarterbacks who have thrown the ball to Joe Douglas, Conklin has given him a good return on investment.” Conklin will have a contract year full of success in 2024 with Aaron Rodgers at quarterback. For added incentive, do you recall how we talked for months about tight end Brock Bowers being the obvious choice for the Jets in the first round? OT Olu Fashanu was Douglas’s choice instead. Conklin must now assist in demonstrating the accuracy of his general manager.
Conklin’s claim to such accolade is entirely appropriate. Conklin signed during the offseason for a lower salary than the other tight end the Jets signed, CJ Uzomah, who received a $24 million three-year contract. Since the beginning, he has been disregarded, and the previous season, he did not record a single touchdown reception.
But in 2024, he will have a fantastic chance to make a comeback to the NFL.
