Death. After severing his carotid artery in Rotterdam on November 21, 2011, Halman passed away from blood loss. His age was twenty-four. The homicide led to the arrest of his brother, Jason Halman.
After agreeing with defense attorneys that Jason Halman’s psychosis at the time of the stabbing had been partially brought on by his marijuana usage, prosecutors were able to free Jason Halman from detention on August 16, 2012 in the Netherlands. Jason also consented to receive mental health therapy and to be monitored by a probation officer. Jason was officially declared not guilty on August 30, 2012, by a Dutch court, citing temporary insanity as the reason. Jason was granted freedom by the court as well.
declaring that he was “well likely that the psychosis [had] been a singular event” and that there was “only a remote chance of any reoccurrence” according to his mental and psychological evaluations. In a little grove by the sea, Greg was laid to rest. The plot reminded his family of a baseball diamond, which is why they chose that location. He was the first documented deceased Major League Baseball player from the Netherlands.
