JUST IN: Mariners confirm that the awaiting pitcher is back from…….

Prior to the start of the series against Cleveland on Tuesday, the Seattle Mariners activated first baseman Ty France from the 10-day injured list.

After being struck by a pitch during a game against Kansas City, France suffered a hairline fracture in his right heel, which kept him out of action for a little over a week. France made a franchise mark by being hit by pitch for the ninetieth time in his Mariners career. France had improved their hitting average to.251 after a sluggish start, with seven home runs and 27 RBIs; five of those home runs had come in the previous 27 games

In order to free up a place on the roster, Seattle designated catcher Seby Zavala for assignment. This move may result in Mitch Garver spending more time on the field as Cal Raleigh’s primary backup. With just 18 games played, Zavala’s batting average was just.154 in his few at-bats.

Since May 29, Garver, who was acquired in the off-season to serve as Seattle’s primary designated hitter, has caught four games. Lately, he has begun to see some time behind the plate. With eight home runs and a.173 batting average in 61 games this season, Garver has had difficulty at the plate.
