The third matchup between standout rookies Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese made Sunday’s Indiana Fever vs. Chicago Sky game the most viewed WNBA matchup in 23 years. 2.3 million people watched Reese’s Sky on ESPN as it defeated Clark’s Fever 88-87. The number of watchers at one point was 3.3 million.
The previous record was achieved on June 16, when 2.25 million spectators saw Indiana defeat Chicago 91-83. Reese and Clark were a part of that game. CBS, which has a viewership of almost 12.5 million greater than ESPN, aired the game. On June 1, the teams played their debut game, with the Fever defeating the Sky 71-70. On August 30, Indiana and Chicago will conclude their four-game season series. Reese took center stage in the most recent matchup between Clark and himself, recording a game-high 25 points and 16 rebounds. Clark finished with 13 assists, 6 rebounds, and 17 points.
This season, Clark—the first overall selection chosen in this year’s draft—will play in 20 additional nationally televised games for the Fever. After being chosen seventh overall in April, Reese will get the opportunity to participate in nine additional games on national television. In the WNBA standings, the Sky are 6-9 this season, one game ahead of ninth-place Indiana (7-11).
