The New York Knicks have crossed off a lot of things on their offseason to-do list, but there are still a few more. First of all, they are still trying to find a method to replace Isaiah Hartenstein, who was signed by the Oklahoma City Thunder via NBA free agency. Ian Begley of SNY claims that the Knicks attempted to test the waters for a possible deal that would have brought Clint Capela from the Atlanta Hawks to New York.
Although the Hawks still have Trae Young as their franchise cornerstone, it is unknown what path they will go in the upcoming season. However, the quality surrounding him doesn’t appear to be strong enough to compete with the East’s top clubs.
Although they are designed to win, the New York Knicks can yet acquire a key player.
Conversely, it is evident that the Knicks have an immediate winning goal in mind. Adding a large player like Capela would offer New York even more strength since they already have the Villanova Core to rely on. The 25th overall pick in the 2014 NBA Draft, Capela, averaged 11.5 points, 10.6 rebounds, and 1.5 blocks per game during the previous campaign. With one more year remaining on his contract, which will earn him $22.26 million in the 2024–25 NBA season, Capela won’t need the Knicks to commit to him long-term either.
