In addition to winning 3-1 against the Tampa Bay Rays to end their series, the Los Angeles Dodgers also suffered a setback due to an injury to their ace player, Shohei Ohtani. A pitch in the Rays game in the eighth inning struck the two-time AL Most Valuable Player in the forearm. Thankfully for Los Angeles, it appears that Ohtani did not sustain a serious injury after the game, as per Mike DiGiovanna of The Los Angeles Times, X-rays revealed no abnormalities.
On X, a social networking platform that was formerly known as Twitter, DiGiovanna said, “Dodgers slugger Shohei Ohtani was hit on the inside of the left forearm.” X-ray results were negative. That should be alright with him. Pitches hit Ohtani while he was battling Richard Lovelady of the Rays. Lovelady hit Ohtani with a sinker that traveled outside the zone at 91 mph, putting the Japanese star ahead 2-1 in the count. After being hit, Ohtani, 30, grabbed his left wrist and winced, seemingly in pain, before jogging to first base. Ohtani’s ability to continue playing after taking a hit was encouraging. After that agonizing plate appearance, he even scored when Mookie Betts launched a 387-foot home run to drive Ohtani home and give the Dodgers a 3-1 lead. Ohtani went out on a strikeout and went 0-for-3 for the evening.
Ohtani may have to miss a game or two to let his arm to fully heal, even if it appears that he has avoided a catastrophic injury. Should that prove to be the case, Ohtani will miss a minimum of one game in the highly anticipated three-game interleague series against the Baltimore Orioles that begins this Tuesday at Dodger Stadium. Ohtani is hitting.292 so far in the 2024 MLB regular season, with 40 stolen bases and 41 home runs. In addition, his.566 slugging and.368 on-base percentages contribute to his.934 OPS.
