One of the biggest stories of the opening weekend of the 2024 NFL season had nothing to do with on-field events. Former NBA player Charles Barkley expressed concerns about the way Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill handled his detention by police prior to the team’s game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Barkley likened the circumstances to the time Scottie Scheffler was arrested by the police prior to the second round of the PGA Championship.
Charles Barkley stated, “I don’t know what happened; I think it clearly escalated quickly,” on Roc and Manuch with Jimmy B. “It bothers me that we don’t know, and I hate that we’re going to throw it in the media because the guys are going to race quickly.” The media is full of idiots who enjoy using the racial card. I realized that they had recently given Scottie Scheffler the same treatment. Barkley continued by saying that when police pull over a celebrity, they shouldn’t pull that card and should instead cooperate. But he refuted any suggestion that Hill had used the card during the exchange. Hill demanded reform in the wake of the event.
“I believe that the one thing that celebrities cannot do is ask, ‘Do you know who I am?'” stated Barkley. That is the one thing you are unable to accomplish, as I previously stated. I’m not sure what went wrong. Saying “yes sir,” you fully cooperate. Barkley continued by stating that he had read the police report and based more of his comments on it. The police report indicates that he was not cooperative, but I detest it when we publish material in the media and allow individuals who use race as a political tool to spread false information,” Barkley remarked. “Wait a minute, Scottie Scheffler just experienced the same thing—he was genuinely booked. He descended to the large home.
