When the Pittsburgh Steelers host Aaron Rodgers and the New York Jets on Sunday night, it appears that veteran quarterback Russell Wilson will start. At least that’s what T.J. Houshmandzadeh, a current commentator and former NFL wide receiver, stated on Fox Sports’ The Facility today. “I was informed that he is 100% started.”The starter is Russell Wilson,” Houshmandzadeh declared. It is undoubtedly an intriguing move if this is the one the Steelers are taking. The play of former first-round choice Justin Fields has helped the team tie for first place in the AFC North at 4-2. In the six games he has participated in, Fields has tallied ten touchdowns and only one interception.
Nonetheless, head coach Mike Tomlin is in his position for a reason. He obviously believes in Wilson and is familiar with football. Wilson himself hasn’t played since his stint in Denver ended the previous season. In 2023, he did toss 26 touchdowns and only eight interceptions. Given that Pittsburgh’s offense appears to be stronger this season than Denver’s was the previous season, the former Super Bowl champion might have some success in the Steel City.
The fact that Pittsburgh boasts a top-tier defense also helps. However, it’s curious to choose to bring him back in a prime-time game against Aaron Rodgers and a hungry Jets team. Does he still have what it takes to be the best when things count? This Sunday night, fans will receive an answer to that query.
