Chealsea news:Every word Enzo Maresca said on double Chelsea transfer, Marc Guehi interest, Romeo Lavia return

Enzo Maresca has just conducted his pre-match press conference ahead of Chelsea’s FA Cup third round tie with Morecambe on Saturday afternoon.

The Blues welcome the League Two strugglers to Stamford Bridge at the weekend with the hosts going into the cup tie as enormous favourites. Maresca has just been speaking to the media to preview the match, and was also asked about a variety of other topics at Cobham. Here is the full transcript…They are both available and they can get some minutes in tomorrow’s game. Then the rest, apart from Benoit Badiashile, Wes Fofana and Kiernan [Dewsbury-Hall], but the rest are all available.”

Will we see Aaron Anselmino on the pitch tomorrow?

“No. It’s too early; the plan for him is to try and put him in condition to get some minutes in the future, not now. He had some injuries when he was there and now it is important for him to arrive here, adapt to English weather, English football and then from there we will start to use him.”

You told us Wesley Fofana could be out for the season but Wesley has been saying otherwise on social media… What’s going on?

“We speak the same language in terms of we communicate between each other in English and in French, so it has been quite clear. I spoke with Wes – the 12 to 16 weeks the club mentioned is the situation. Wes is thinking he can recover sooner than that. We are all happy if Wes’ recovers [quicker] and will be available for tomorrow, but we are going to see.

“There is not any problem, I just told you what the medical staff said to me, that it is around 12 and 16 weeks. Wes is thinking he can recover earlier than that. We are all happy if Wes is back as soon as possible.”

The Fofana injury means you are being linked with Marc Guehi. Can you tell us anything more about that?

“The only thing I can say is Marc Guehi is a Palace player. I like Marc for sure but he is not our player. But I like also the central defenders we have. I also like different types of central defenders in Italy, Spain and France but that doesn’t mean we are going to buy a player. It is a normal situation I think when you have central defenders injured that the speculation is there. At the same time, there is nothing there.”

Are you going to bring Trevoh Chalobah back from his loan?

“This is exactly the same. Unfortunately I have to give you the same answer. Trev is a good player but in this moment he is a Palace player, so we will see.”

Will Ben Chilwell or Dewsbury-Hall play this weekend?

“Kiernan is injured, as I said at the beginning, so he will not be able to play some minutes. Chilwell, for him, I think in this moment is thinking he is probably going to leave, so it is probably better to avoid using him to avoid that kind of situation, an injury or this kind of things. So the plan is not to use Ben tomorrow.”

How important is the FA Cup for Chelsea?

“The FA Cup, for sure, is very important but not because we are 10 points from the top of the league. It’s important because it is another competition. Since we started, we have tried to do our best in every competition.

“With the Premier League, Conference League and Carabao Cup – but unfortunately we lost against Newcastle. We are going to try do the same [try to win] in

the FA Cup.”
