Tauchman wants to improve his slug, but there are several ways to do it.
Mesa, Arizona. Cubs outfielder Mike Tauchman has seen some misconceptions regarding his approach to the plate. Even last season, when he averaged 4.27 pitches per plate appearance, his intention was not to work deep counts. When he felt his best, he was frequently causing damage early in the count. However, due to his dedication to his assault strategy, he saw a large number of pitches.
Tauchman entered this spring with a different strategy.
“I believe that when I’m in a real game situation, the plate discipline that appears to have always been there, will be there,” he told the Sun-Times recently. “So I can afford to now be a little bit more aggressive.”
