In 2024, Justin Fields, a quarterback, will be a member of the Pittsburgh Steelers. However, Christopher Kline of Fansided offered a scenario in which he might rejoin the NFC by the following year.To
Fields was listed by Kline as one of the Dallas Cowboys’ five potential quarterback replacements before the 2025 campaign.
Kline stated, “The Cowboys clearly have an underlying interest in dual-threat quarterbacks (see: Trey Lance).” Jerry Jones will probably search for a catchy name with a little upside if Prescott walks. Fields, who is 25 years old, has enough beginning experience to warrant one final extended chance.
The Steelers rejected Fields’ fifth-year option for 2025 in Kline’s scenario. In the hypothetical, Russell Wilson was probably signed by the Steelers to a contract extension, and Fields was not given the chance to play in Pittsburgh in 2024.
On March 16, the Steelers selected Fields from the Chicago Bears in exchange for a conditional sixth-round pick in 2025. If Fields plays 51% of Pittsburgh’s offensive snaps in 2024, the draft pick drops to a fourth-round pick.
Prescott will be signed to a contract extension by the Cowboys. However, since Dallas is playing with “America’s Team,” there will probably be speculations behind center until Prescott inks a new contract.
Kline claimed that Fields might be Dallas’ backup option because to his cheapness, which is largely why the Steelers were drawn to him.
According to Kline, “the total lack of faith in such a dynamic athlete is a bit surprising, even though his output was never great.” “Dallas may have an opportunity to uncover significant value in the clearance section.”
Fields was selected in the first round of the 2013 NBA Draft. Fields might be worth several Day 2 selections in a trade this offseason, according to Schefter’s speculation. However, Fields was traded by the Bears for a single Day 3 pick in the next round.
It’s improbable that Fields increases his worth if, as Kline suggested, he is not on the field in 2024.
Fields has a 10-28 record as a starter in the NFL. He is an excellent playmaker, but he also makes a lot of big blunders.
Throughout his career, Fields has averaged 7 yards per pass with 40 touchdown passes, 6.2 yards per carry, and 14 rushing touchdowns. In 40 NFL games, he has also fumbled 38 times, thrown 30 interceptions, and taken 135 sacks.
If the Steelers reject Fields’ fifth-year option, the quarterback won’t play for the team in 2024, and Fields decides to depart Pittsburgh, Kline’s hypothetical scenario in which he signs with the Cowboys in free agency the following year is contingent.
However, it also depends on Fields not agreeing to a contract extension with the Steelers before to the start of the season.
Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette suggested that Fields would consider this summer.
In response to a query regarding the Steelers potentially negotiating a new contract with the quarterback, Dulac replied on April 3 that “I wouldn’t be surprised if they did something sooner with Fields.”
Fields is obviously viewed by the Steelers as Wilson’s backup, at least heading into the 2024 campaign. Wilson isn’t the long-term answer at center, though; he will turn 36 in November.
Fields’ rookie deal is about to expire, but it wouldn’t be strange if the Steelers took their time developing him. Fields is Kenny Pickett’s junior.
Fields might sign an extension with the Steelers this summer, eliminating any chance that a team like the Cowboys would be able to sign him.
