The NFL Players Association reports that former New Orleans Saints linebacker Ronald Powell passed away at the age of 32.
We lament the passing of Ronald Powell today; he was a beloved son, brother, and father to a large number of people. To everyone who knew Ronald, we express our condolences. #RIP,” the group captioned a picture of Powell.
The cause of Powell’s death was not disclosed by the association.
The Saints paid tribute to X on social media and offered their sympathies to his loved ones.
Powell was taken by the Saints in the fifth round of the 2014 NFL draft after playing NCAA football for the University of Florida. Later that season, Powell made 14 appearances for the Saints and recorded two tackles.
He later played on the practice squads of the Chicago Bears and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Subsequently, he signed with the Seattle Seahawks, but was cut in 2017.
Powell participated in the short-lived Alliance of American Football in 2019 as a player for the Orlando Apollos.
Following the announcement of Powell’s demise, the official Florida Gators football account on X paid tribute to him, stating, “We’re very saddened to learn about the passing of former Gators player Ronald Powell.” His family and loved ones are in our thoughts and prayers.”
