George Harris, an ex-winger for Reading FC, died on February 8, 2022, at the age of 81.
He began his football career with Woking, then transferred to Newport County, where he participated in 31 League games in 1961–1962, before relocating to Watford. For the Hornets, he participated in 163 League games and scored 55 goals.
Harris relocated to Reading FC in July 1966, where he played until 1969. He made 156 appearances for Reading, 154 of them in the starting lineup, and scored 66 goals in that time. In 1966–1967, George’s debut season with the team, he won Player of the Year.
He moved from Reading to Cambridge United, where he participated in the team’s inaugural Football League campaign in 1970–71. He made his debut for Cambridge in their inaugural Football League game against Lincoln City on August 15, 1970. Two weeks later, against Oldham Athletic, he netted the team’s first goal in the Football League.
The Association wants to express its condolences to George’s family.
