Julio Urias, a former pitcher for the Los Angeles Dodgers, has been charged with five misdemeanors in connection with an alleged incident of domestic violence that occurred at a soccer game last year.
It was claimed that he was charged with one crime of assault, one count of false imprisonment, two counts of domestic battery involving a dating connection, and one count of spousal battery. Previously, the district attorney’s office for Los Angeles County decided not to file criminal charges.
The Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office was then tasked with reviewing the case for misdemeanors.
During a dispute during a LAFC vs. Inter Miami soccer game last September, Urias is accused of pushing his wife Daisy into a fence, yanking her hair, and swinging at her.
At the scene, he was taken into custody and charged with felony domestic violence.
A few days later, Urias was placed on administrative leave by Major League Baseball. He was unsigned this winter in free agency and hasn’t played in a game since.
Due to a prior arrest for domestic abuse in 2019, the 27-year-old was suspended for 20 games. Following Urias’s agreement to finish a domestic violence course and refrain from doing any more violent acts, no official charges were brought in that instance.
Urias would probably be the first repeat offender under the MLB’s domestic violence policy if he signed a contract with a franchise. Over the course of his eight-season MLB career, Urias recorded a 60-25 record with a 3.11 ERA and 1.10 WHIP. In 2021, he led the NL in wins, and the next season, he topped the league in ERA.
