Jets Signed Major Sensational Star On A $45 Million, For Three-Year Contract

This offseason, the prospective free agent of the New York Jets might choose to remain in the AFC East.In 2021, the green and white signed Carl Lawson to a $45 million, three-year contract.

Jets' Carl Lawson: 'Being strong as [expletive]' among keys to success

The Jets felt they had struck gold when they signed him in the first few months of the summer. Although the former Auburn star had never had a season with ten or more sacks, the team was placing its trust in the analytics.
Lawson appeared to be the next Lawrence Taylor, and several Jets employees texted me to say he was “unblockable.”

Lawson tore his Achilles during a joint practice against the Green Bay Packers before Jets fans could witness that during the regular season.

Due to an additional injury, Lawson played in 2022 after missing all of 2021 with a damaged Achilles.
Lawson played in all 17 games in 2022 despite the new injury, recording seven sacks.

He didn’t start, played in just six games last season, and for the first time in his career, didn’t register a single sack.
The 28-year-old Lawson had to miss a month of training camp due to a back injury. For the remainder of the season, the gifted pass rusher was not the same person.
It’s possible that some Jets supporters are thinking, “Why the heck do we care about Lawson’s free-agent pursuits?”It’s a crucial component of the NFL comp pick bingo that clubs participate in.

The green and white were given three compensatory selections this offseason to make up for the free agents they were unable to sign the year before. On day three, all of the picks—a sixth and two sevenths—came late.

In 2025, New York could have a chance to select at the top. This is due to the fact that Bryce Huff, a defensive lineman, was traded by the Jets to the Philadelphia Eagles for $51.1 million over three years.
But in order to make that happen—given all of the additions made this offseason—New York needs a few of its own pending free players to agree to “compensatory eligible contracts before April 28th” with other teams.

According to Brad Spielberger, the Jets only need to sign one more unrestricted free agent in order to “re-open the 2025 4th-rounder for Huff” following Justin Hardee’s signing with the Cleveland Browns.
