Rashee Rice was involved in a multi-car collision on a Dallas interstate late last month, and it appears that there will be repercussions. Following his admission that he was driving one of the cars in a six-car collision that caused thousands of dollars’ worth of property damage and four injuries, the local police issued an arrest warrant for the Kansas City Chiefs receiver.
Just two short months ago, Rice assisted the Chiefs in winning the Super Bowl twice, and he quickly established himself as one of quarterback Patrick Mahomes’ favorite targets as a rookie in 2023. The criminal accusations that are currently pending against the former second-round pick could now impede his road to greatness.
As a professional, Tyler Boyd is about to begin his ninth year. This summer, the University of Pittsburgh graduate who was selected in the second round of the 2016 Draft has been with the Cincinnati Bengals for his whole career, albeit they have granted him free agency.
In 2023, he caught 67 catches for 667 yards and two scores, despite it not being his greatest season. He has 6,000 yards, 31 touchdowns, and 513 catches during his career.
In free agency, Boyd might not be the youngest choice, but he might be a good backup for tight end Travis Kelce and a strong alternative for quarterback Patrick Mahomes. Although acquiring Boyd would probably cost more, it may be a wise move should Rice’s worst-case scenario come to pass.
In the event that Reid and offensive coordinator Matthew Nagy choose not to pursue Boyd, they will have the option to choose a receiver in the 2024 draft. So far, pundits speculate that they are inclined to choose a defensive back, with cornerback Ennis Rakestraw Jr. emerging as the front-runner.
With the 32nd pick this year, the Chiefs’ best receiver options—Marvin Harrison Jr., Malik Nabers, and Rome Odunze—would probably be out of reach if they decide to select a receiver.
