Georgia football released a statement that read, “Our hearts are heavy as we mourn the loss of a beloved member of the Bulldog family, Akeem Hebron.”

Joining Georgia’s football recruiting class in 2006, Hebron played in 16 games for the Bulldogs between 2008 and 2010, totaling 10 stops with seven assists, including two for a loss during his senior year, when he also recorded his lone sack during his college career.

Hebron played for Georgia, which went 24–15 overall and won two bowl games. The team began the 2008 season ranked No. 1 in the top 25, finished at No. 13 in the AP poll after going 10–3, and won the Citrus Bowl.

During his time at Georgia, Hebron experienced a temporary suspension; nonetheless, he recovered and went on to get a degree from the university. This personal achievement attracted the attention of former Bulldogs head coach Mark Richt.
“A good thing happened to Georgia and to him,” Richt stated.

“I believe that the most significant development he has undergone is his maturation into a man. That is one of the main goals of college. He has demonstrated that he is a good man, and for that I am truly proud.”
