After contributing significantly to Aston Villa’s advancement under Unai Emery, Douglas Luiz has reiterated his dedication to the team.
Due in large part to the midfielder’s performance over the past 18 months, Villa has set their sights on Champions League qualification and victory in the Europa Conference League during the season’s closing weeks. After Arsenal’s three bids for Luiz on transfer deadline day were rejected, Luiz signed a new deal with Villa a month before Emery arrived.
Although Villa may demand a significant lot of money only to begin talks this summer, Mikel Arteta is a big fan of Luiz and Arsenal is still interested in signing him. Villa’s president of football operations, Monchi, is reportedly considering offering Luiz £85 million, according to Spanish reports.
After previously discussing how much he enjoys playing for the team and developing under Emery, the 25-year-old’s contract expires in 2026.
As the team is creating so much history and as I score goals and provide assists, we’re all really pleased with how this season is going, Luiz said to DAZN Portugal.
“In my opinion, it’s simply the beginning of a new chapter and I’m really pleased with everything. I often say this, but Aston Villa is a big club, and we’re ready to start a new chapter.
“The group’s confidence has greatly increased since Unai joined. We always had a solid collection of players, so I believe he gave the team confidence.
I believe his effort was significant for the history we are creating because the team is essentially the same and only one or two players were added.
A number of trips to England have been made by sports director Deco to watch Luiz in action this season, including during Villa’s 1-0 victory over Arsenal in December. Luiz is apparently also of interest to Barcelona. However, Luiz’s accession to any international football team would not come without a cost.
