The New York Giants have been open about their desire to upgrade at quarterback this offseason. New sources suggest that those efforts are still underway, with a relatively aggressive pursuit of a deal, just days out from the 2024 NFL Draft.
The front office of the Giants has already begun scouting the 2024 quarterback class, only one year after they made Daniel Jones one of the highest-paid NFL players. This year, New York is motivated to chase a top prospect at the position because of long-term worries about Jones that go beyond his contract.
Still, the Giants aren’t in a terrific position to address the position, even with the sixth overall pick. In the 2024 NFL Draft order, the Chicago Bears and Washington Commanders will select quarterbacks with the first two picks. The New England Patriots, who are considering offers at No. 3 overall, are leaning toward selecting a quarterback.
NFL analyst Adam Schefter stated that the Giants and Minnesota Vikings are the two clubs most interested in trading up into the top picks during an appearance on ESPN’s The Pat McAfee Show.
In the past, several NFL teams shown interest in trading up for a quarterback. NFL trade-up ideas involving the Denver Broncos and Las Vegas Raiders for a top-five choice have been linked to both teams.
But for the time being, it looks like it’s between the Giants and the Vikings. With additional assets packaged around the No. 6 overall pick, New York can give a short slip to any team that is falling out of the top four. Minnesota can package the 11th and 23rd overall picks and possibly combine it with a 2025 first-round pick, despite being lower in the first round.
It’s very evident from Schefter’s language and other NFL reports that Minnesota is putting up more of an effort, which probably indicates a greater willingness to give up. But the Giants’ obvious desire to move up makes their plans with the sixth pick much more intriguing for Thursday night’s narrative.
