After securing a berth in League One with a convincing victory against Forest Green Rovers last weekend, Wrexham is currently enjoying yet another promotion. With Wrexham swiftly rising from the National League to League One, Phil Parkinson has already secured back-to-back promotions.
Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds’ aim was to lift Wrexham out of its gloom and set it on an exciting new path.
Three promotions in a row would be a tall order, but Wrexham supporters have come to realize that nothing is out of the question at this point. As was the case after promotion to League Two, Wrexham will need additions to truly compete in League One.
Naturally, this summer will see signings, but Parkinson will also be confident that some of his players can succeed in League One. Parkinson will be searching for individuals who have performed well at this level in the past to have a significant impact on the team the following season.
Hugh Ker discussing Andy Cannon
Andy Cannon, a midfield player, is one of the players. The 28-year-old, who shone during Wrexham’s promotion push, returns to the third division having playing in League One for Rochdale and Portsmouth. In fact, Cannon was a member of the Stockport County team that won promotion in 2022, moving up from the National League at Wrexham’s expense.
But Cannon is now an integral part of the Wrexham team, and he’s been outstanding in the last few games of the campaign. In his last seven games, Cannon has contributed two goals and four goals, demonstrating his ability to be a productive midfield player.
Humphrey Ker, the executive director, has now moved to compliment Cannon in an interview with Men in Blazers. Ker said that although Cannon had a strong season finale last year, he struggled to get off the field this year. Ker calls the midfield player “sensational,” believing that Cannon has returned to his finest form.
“I wouldn’t say it was shocking, but I believe Andy Cannon has given us some of his best work this season,” Ker remarked. “I think he joined us in January and played a really important role through to the end of last season. He was great in the run-in last year, but he started this season in quite adifferent form, which I think was due to a variety of factors,” the player said.
“The obstacles he had to get past off the field, which I should say that it was sharing mental space with the brain that told him to run out of midfield instead of being distracted. Since things were fixed, he has excelled. I believe he’s been my Player of the Season,” he continued.
