When the Baltimore Ravens and Tennessee Titans running back Derrick Henry reached an agreement on a two-year, $9 million contract, it was one of the more impactful offseason additions. With his 6-3, 247-pound build, Henry, 30, is still among the NFL’s top running backs and one of the hardest players for opposing defenders to handle. On a recent SiriusXM radio appearance, head coach John Harbaugh stated, “I’m glad we’re not tackling him this year.” “Glad somebody else has to try and do that.”
Henry averaged little over five yards per carry while running the ball 55 times for 277 yards and three touchdowns in his four career games versus the Ravens. Henry has only gained five yards or more per rush on six NFL teams—including the Ravens—on average. In addition, he has that mark versus the New England Patriots, Jacksonville Jaguars, Houston Texans, Detroit Lions, and Kansas City Chiefs.
The expectation is that the Ravens offense will be among the most dangerous in the NFL with Henry on the ground and reigning MVP Lamar Jackson, and if they both perform as they have in the past, that may very well be the case. With the start of OTAs later this month, Henry and the other Ravens players will have an opportunity to develop chemistry.
