At his first press conference on Saturday following his trade from the Buffalo Bills to the Houston Texans, wide receiver Stefon Diggs told reporters he was excited to get “a breath of fresh air.”
In exchange for Diggs, the Texans received a 2024 No. 189 pick and a 2025 fifth-round pick in April from the Bills, who they acquired via the Minnesota Vikings in the second round of the 2025 NFL Draft. Diggs praised the Texans for being “extremely welcoming.” “Very welcoming, and I just think it’s important for me to be involved in events like that.” It is sincere. It’s a place where you flourish. Diggs spent four seasons as a member of the Bills, where he finished with 5,372 receiving yards, 37 touchdowns on 445 receptions in 66 games. In addition to being chosen for four consecutive Pro Bowls, he was named to the First and Second teams of the All-Pro team once each. Throughout Diggs’ four seasons with the team, the Bills advanced to the postseason each time as the AFC East Division champions. Despite being frequently regarded as strong title candidates, the Bills failed to make it to the Super Bowl in any of the previous four seasons.
Diggs’ discontent with the squad grew throughout this time. The day before he was dealt, he replied, “You sure?” to a social media post saying that quarterback Josh Allen’s success didn’t depend on him. In response to the question of whether he had anticipated being moved by the Bills, Diggs stated, “It was going in that direction.”
Thanks to rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud, the Texans won 10 of their 17 regular season games and proceeded to the AFC Divisional Round. The NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year was awarded to him after he completed 319 of his 499 passes for 4,108 yards and 23 touchdowns with just five interceptions during the regular season.
“Diggs has come in and been a leader, which I’m proud of him for, just really has been unselfish and wanted to see other guys eat,” Stroud commented. “That was his primary concern. He adopted the character of the “dog” who is always present because he wanted to be around other “dogs.” There will be a “dog,” he looks left and right. it is what we bring to the table, and it is what he wants. So far, he has been nothing short of incredible, and I can’t wait to collaborate with him.”
