The Mariners defeated the Boston Red Sox 10–6 on Tuesday night. Jorge Polanco hit a home run in the fourth inning and added an RBI double during Seattle’s five-run fifth. Dylan Moore drove in three with a bases-loaded single in the sixth.

The Mariners took advantage of some defensive errors that had Boston fans jeering, and the eight-run explosion that occurred halfway through the game helped Seattle win for the fourth time in five games. Luis Castillo (9-10) of Seattle started the game and allowed just three runs on six hits and one walk while pitching six innings. He got three strikeouts. Boston’s Rafael Devers drove in three runs in the third inning. Despite adding three more runs in the seventh inning, the Red Sox were unable to overcome their 10-3 disadvantage.

The Mariners chased starter James Paxton (8-3), which resulted in two errors in the fifth inning and another in the sixth. After being acquired by Boston from the Los Angeles Dodgers in a trade last week, Paxton pitched 4 1/3 innings, giving up six runs on six hits while striking out five.

In the fifth, the Mariners batted eleven times. First baseman Dominic Smith committed a throwing error, and then Seattle loaded the bases via a fielder’s choice. Shortstop Randy Arozarena was able to reach on a fielder’s choice when Ceddanne Rafaela removed Smith from the bag following a successful Mariners review that reversed the first call. Justin Turner used a fielder’s choice to score a run.

After Moore knocked a double off reliever Zack Kelly off the Green Monster, Polanco drew a walk, opening the bases for three more runs. In the sixth, reliever Yohan Ramírez hit Mitch Garver after allowing a run to score on a wild pitch. Polanco scored when Garver stole second and Boston catcher Connor Wong’s throw bounced into center field.     The day following his acquisition by Seattle in a trade with the Toronto Blue Jays, Turner made his Mariners debut. Turner, who played for the Red Sox the previous season, and Arozarena, who recently joined Seattle following a trade with Tampa Bay, each scored two runs off of drives in.
