Ahead of the 2024–25 EFL Championship season, which kicks off on Saturday, August 10, Norwich City has announced the signing of left-sided defender Callum Doyle from Premier League winners Manchester City.
The action is being taken as Johannes Hoff Thorup’s team gets ready for their first-ever away game of the season against Oxford United, who just won promotion. After letting go of academy graduate Sam McCallum, who is currently playing for Sheffield United, and Greek international Dimitris Giannoulis, the Norfolk-based squad has been looking for a defender since the start of the transfer window. Doyle is no stranger to the EFL, having played on loan for Leicester City, the league winners, during the previous season.

Doyle expressed his readiness to play before of the opening game against Oxford United to the club’s media, saying, “I’m very excited and glad that it’s finally done.” I’m incredibly happy to be here and am eager to get going. Here, I believe we can have a really successful season. Using the club’s internal channels, sporting director Ben Knapper also addressed the media, saying, “We’ve wanted to bring Callum to the club for a while.
It is not surprising that Doyle is accustomed to competition at this level given that he has played in three EFL seasons, two of which were Championship campaigns. Doyle played in the Championship for Leicester for a total of 23 games, 14 of which were starts. He also had one assist, played for almost 1,200 minutes, and had an average FotMob rating of 7.21.
Doyle spent his whole tenure with the Foxes, mostly playing left back. The youthful defender won 56.0% of his ground duels and 51.1% of his aerial duels, for a tackles won rate of 70.7%. The player saw just one yellow card the entire season despite racking up 20 fouls while playing for the Foxes.
