In order to get ready for their Championship campaign, Southampton spent £10 million to acquire Ross Stewart, a prolific center forward for Sunderland, last season. With 26 goals and three assists in the 2021–2022 season, the Scotland international led the six-time English Champions to promotion to the Championship. He also scored 10 goals the following season. Thus, the Saints made the decision to hire the 28-year-old to strengthen their assault in order to return to the Premier League.
Stewart, however, was unable to play for Russell Martin’s team for almost the whole season due to a hamstring injury, and he only made four appearances, all of which were as a second half substitute. In recent weeks, the 28-year-old had brilliant cameos against Bournemouth and Everton after fully recovering from his injury last month. But things didn’t go well for Stewart, who had to be replaced by Cameron Archer after suffering a muscular injury about thirty minutes in. After the 3-1 loss, manager Russell Martin analyzed Stewart’s injury and said, “He’s got a muscle injury.” Stewart was uneasy and had to leave the field on his maiden Premier League start. He has fought so hard to return, and I am so sad for him. We’ll have to go back and see how long he’ll stay there because, although it’s difficult for him, he has a great deal of spirit and tenacity.”
