During his workout with the New York Giants on Tuesday, Alex McGough, a former quarterback for the Green Bay Packers, made news in the NFL. Daniel Jones was benched, and the Giants wanted to add another quarterback to their squad.
However, the Giants chose to sign Tim Boyle, another former Packers quarterback, instead of McGough. Nevertheless, McGough has hope as the Packers are bringing him back before their Week 12 game against the San Francisco 49ers. Matt Schneidman of The Athletic reports that the former quarterback for the Birmingham Stallions was spotted at Green Bay’s Wednesday practice and will be available as a wide receiver.
McGough was with Green Bay at the start of training camp after he switched to wide receiver earlier this year, but he was waived due to an injury. Following the conclusion of his second season in the USFL, McGough was signed by the Packers last year. McGough won the USFL MVP award in 2023 after leading the Birmingham Stallions to their second consecutive title.
The standout spring football player completed 2,105 yards, 20 touchdowns, and five interceptions on 67.4 percent of his passes. In addition, he produced 405 rushing yards and five touchdowns by making plays with his legs.
After evaluating McGough, the Packers signed him as their third quarterback, behind Sean Clifford and Jordan Love. Last season, McGough didn’t get any playing time. But Nonetheless, McGough is a good late-season practice squad acquisition due to his connection with the organization.
